Job Description
Payroll Analyst
  • Monday to Friday – West Perth Location
  • Company contribution towards private health insurance
  • Strengthen payroll accuracy, controls and continuous improvement
  • 12 Month Maximum Term Contract

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Analyst to join our Finance team based at our new corporate headquarters in West Perth.

Reporting to the Supervisor Payroll, this role will act as a key support within the payroll function, helping ensure accurate, timely and compliant payroll delivery for a large and complex workforce. This is a hands-on analytical role with broad exposure across payroll processing, reporting, reconciliations, SAP payroll system improvements, audit support and complex issue resolution.

You will play an important role in strengthening payroll controls, improving data integrity, supporting system changes and identifying opportunities to make payroll processes more efficient, accurate and reliable. Working closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, IT and external providers, you will help deliver a payroll service that supports employees, leaders and the broader business.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys problem solving, working with data, improving systems and processes, and being a trusted technical support within a collaborative team environment.

Duties

  • Support complex payroll processing, reporting, reconciliations and quality control activities to ensure accurate and compliant payroll outcomes.
  • Complete pay period, month-end and year-end payroll reconciliations and reporting, including STP reconciliation and finalisation, PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation and other statutory obligations
  • Reconcile payroll to the General Ledger, investigate discrepancies between payroll and accounting entries, and support accurate payroll account postings
  • Analyse payroll data, investigate variances and complex payroll issues, identify root causes and support timely resolution
  • Review payroll system configuration and data integrity, including tax tables, earning and deduction codes, and General Ledger mapping
  • Support SAP Employee Central Payroll activities, including upgrades, migration projects, configuration changes and User Acceptance Testing
  • Support payroll audits, governance activities, policies, procedures and controls, while identifying opportunities to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency and data integrity
  • Work collaboratively with Payroll, HR, Finance, IT and external providers, providing technical support and guidance to payroll team members as required

Skills and Experience

You will bring strong payroll experience, sound analytical capability and a continuous improvement mindset. You will be confident working with complex payroll data, interpreting payroll requirements and supporting accurate, compliant payroll outcomes.

  • Significant experience in a complex, high-volume payroll environment, ideally with exposure to senior payroll, reporting, reconciliation or payroll analyst responsibilities
  • Strong capability in payroll reporting, reconciliations and data analysis, including the ability to identify discrepancies, investigate issues and support accurate payroll outcomes
  • Experience using SAP Employee Central Payroll, or another large enterprise payroll system, with confidence working across payroll data, processes and controls
  • Working knowledge of Australian payroll compliance requirements, including PAYG, superannuation, STP, FBT and the application of relevant policies, procedures and controls
  • Practical experience interpreting payroll-related requirements such as employment contracts, industrial agreements, awards, legislation and internal policies
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to manage, reconcile and analyse large or complex payroll datasets using formulas, pivot tables and other data tools
  • Strong attention to detail, discretion and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to manage confidential information and work effectively with Payroll, HR, Finance, IT and external providers to resolve payroll matters

Experience with SAP EC, ECP and S/4HANA integration would be highly regarded, particularly an understanding of how employee, payroll and finance data connects across the end-to-end landscape. Exposure to payroll account postings, General Ledger reconciliations, Employee Termination Payments and taxation treatment would also be beneficial.

A Certificate IV in Payroll Administration, Diploma of Payroll Management or equivalent payroll experience would be viewed favourably. Experience balancing business-as-usual payroll activity with project work, process improvement or system-related initiatives would also be advantageous.
