About the role:

The Major Shutdown Maintenance team is seeking an Electrical Supervisor to support the preparation, execution and close-out of major shutdowns across the Roy Hill Mine Processing fixed plant. The role operates on an 8/6 days-only roster, with flexibility required to work extended swings during the three planned major shutdowns each year.

Reporting to the Superintendent Shutdown Maintenance, you will lead and coordinate electrical shutdown work fronts, working closely with operations, maintenance, planning, contractors and vendor partners. Your focus will be safe execution, effective schedule control, quality completion and a timely, well-documented handback to operations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise electrical shutdown activities in accordance with HIO’s Electrical Safety Management Plan, approved work packs, permits, isolations and applicable statutory requirements.
  • Confirm electrical workers and contractors are competent, licensed or authorised as required, and appropriately supervised for their assigned tasks.
  • Support shutdown readiness through scope and work-pack reviews, Walk the Gantt sessions, resource and contractor mobilisation checks, and verification that required documentation is current.
  • Coordinate electrical work fronts and interfaces with other disciplines, operations, isolation teams and vendors.
  • Lead pre-starts, toolbox discussions and shift handovers, communicating priorities, critical risks, schedule constraints and handback requirements.
  • Monitor safety, progress, productivity, quality and critical-path performance; resolve barriers and escalate emerging risks promptly.
  • Manage changes and emergent work through the approved shutdown scope and work-management processes.
  • Verify inspections, testing, defect management and documentation are complete before electrical work is handed back for reinstatement and operation.
  • Review completed work packs and work orders, ensuring accurate SAP close-out, asset history and follow-on defects.

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience supervising electrical maintenance or shutdown work in a fixed-plant, mining or comparable heavy-industry environment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical safe systems of work, including isolation, permits, electrical risk controls and supervision of contractors.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, technical documentation and maintenance scopes, and identify readiness gaps before execution.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple work fronts, manage competing priorities and protect critical-path activities.
  • Experience verifying work quality, testing records, defects and operational handback.
  • Confident leadership and communication skills, including coaching teams and escalating safety or schedule risks.
  • Competence using SAP or a comparable computerised maintenance management system.
  • Schedule 26 electrical supervisor appointment: ability to meet the eligibility requirements for appointment under clause 5 of Schedule 26 to the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 (WA). A formal appointment would be made through HIO’s statutory appointment process
  • Hold a current, unrestricted Western Australian electrical worker’s licence endorsed as an electrician
  • Meet the eligibility requirements for appointment as an Electrical Supervisor under Schedule 26, clause 5 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 (WA), including at least two years’ experience carrying out electrical work in mining or another heavy industry and successful completion of the approved WHS risk management unit for electrical supervisors.
