About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Specialist Talent to join the People & Culture team and lead the development of sustainable talent pipelines that support the future success of Hancock Iron Ore. This critical leadership role is responsible for identifying, developing and retaining high-potential and emerging talent across the organisation through internal career pathways, succession planning, skills development and workforce transition initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager Talent, you will lead a team of three and drive talent strategies that support future workforce needs. Partnering closely with Operational leaders, People & Culture and Workforce Planning, you will oversee career development, early careers, talent management and skills development programs, while championing employer branding initiatives that build a strong and sustainable talent pipeline.

This role presents a unique opportunity for an experienced talent, workforce development or human resources leader to influence the future capability of the organisation, build leadership and succession pipelines, and create opportunities that enable our people to thrive throughout their careers at Hancock Iron Ore.

 

Duties:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute talent management and workforce capability strategies aligned to business objectives and workforce plans.
  • Design and enhance frameworks for succession planning, career development and internal mobility.
  • Oversee graduate, apprentice, trainee, internship and work experience programs.
  • Partner with leaders to identify future capability requirements and develop workforce pathways to address skill gaps.
  • Drive initiatives that support diversity, Indigenous employment, veteran pathways and increased participation of women in non-traditional roles.
  • Strengthen Hancock Iron Ore's Employee Value Proposition and employer brand through targeted talent attraction and engagement initiatives.
  • Build strategic partnerships with universities, schools, training providers, Indigenous organisations and industry bodies.
  • Utilise workforce and market insights to inform talent decisions and measure program effectiveness.
  • Manage budgets, governance, reporting and program performance outcomes.

 

Skills and Experience:

You are a commercially minded leader with experience developing workforce capability and delivering talent initiatives that create long-term business value. You bring strong stakeholder management skills and can confidently influence leaders at all levels while building trusted relationships across the organisation and externally.

  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Proven success in Talent Management, Organisational Development, Learning & Development, Workforce Development or Human Resources.
  • Experience designing and delivering succession, leadership, capability or career development programs.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage workforce data and insights to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, relationship management and influencing capabilities.
  • Experience within mining, resources, construction, engineering, energy, or similarly complex industries is highly regarded.

 

Desirable:

  • Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Business, Commerce, Education or a related discipline.
  • Workforce capability and competency framework development.
  • Indigenous employment, veteran employment and diversity initiatives.
  • Government funding, grants and training incentive programs.
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment and/or psychometric accreditation.

We have four operating mines: Roy Hill, Miralga Creek, Sanjiv Ridge, and McPhee Creek, plus a range of exciting development opportunities.
