About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Specialist Talent to join the People & Culture team and lead the design, delivery and continuous improvement of Hancock Iron Ore's Early Careers strategy and programs.
Reporting to the Manager Talent, you will lead a team of two Advisors and a Coordinator and play a pivotal role in building sustainable talent pipelines that support Hancock Iron Ore's future workforce capability. Partnering closely with Operational Leaders and the broader People & Culture team, you will develop and deliver innovative graduate, apprentice, trainee, internship and work experience programs that attract, develop and retain emerging talent, ensuring the organisation is well positioned to meet its current and future workforce needs.
This is a unique opportunity for a talent professional who has successfully built and implemented early careers programs within a complex organisation and is passionate about creating meaningful career pathways. In addition to leading Early Careers initiatives, you will contribute to employer branding and workforce capability strategies, collaborating with key stakeholders across the People & Culture function to deliver sustainable workforce outcomes.
Duties:
- Lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of Hancock Iron Ore's Early Careers programs, including graduate, apprentice, trainee, internship and work experience pathways.
- Lead and develop a team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Develop and execute an Early Careers strategy aligned to future workforce capability requirements and business objectives.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with universities, schools, TAFEs, training providers, Indigenous organisations and industry bodies to strengthen talent pipelines.
- Lead attraction, selection, onboarding, development and retention initiatives for Early Careers participants.
- Enhance participant experiences through structured development programs, mentoring opportunities, rotations and career pathways.
- Drive initiatives that support diversity outcomes, including Indigenous employment, veteran pathways and increased participation of women in non-traditional roles.
- Partner with leaders to identify future capability requirements and develop talent pipelines to address critical skill gaps.
- Strengthen Hancock Iron Ore's Employee Value Proposition and employer brand through targeted talent attraction, and engagement initiatives.
- Utilise workforce and market insights to measure program effectiveness and inform talent decisions.
- Manage budgets, governance, reporting and program performance outcomes.
Skills and Experience:
You are a passionate talent professional with proven experience designing, building and delivering successful Early Careers programs that create sustainable workforce pipelines and long-term business value. You bring exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, a strong understanding of emerging talent attraction and development, and the ability to influence leaders at all levels while building trusted relationships internally and externally.
- Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and managing Early Careers programs, including graduate, apprentice, trainee, internship and work experience pathways.
- Strong understanding of Early Careers attraction, recruitment, employer branding and candidate engagement strategies.
- Experience developing structured learning, mentoring and career development programs that support participant growth and retention.
- Proven ability to build strategic partnerships with universities, schools, TAFEs, training providers and industry organisations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, relationship management and influencing skills, with the ability to gain buy-in at all levels.
- Experience leading high-performing teams and managing multiple programs, priorities, budgets and deliverables.
- Proven ability to develop talent pipeline solutions aligned to workforce plans, future capability requirements and business objectives.
- Strong analytical, project management and communication skills, with the ability to leverage data and insights to drive decision-making.
- Experience within mining, resources, construction, engineering, energy or similarly complex industries is highly regarded.
Desirable:
- Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Business, Commerce, Education or a related discipline.
