About the role:

Hancock Iron Ore (HIO) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Manager Sales Operation & Shipping to lead our shipping, sales operations, and market planning activities. This position will be a Monday-Friday roster based at our Head Office in West Perth, with travel to Asia as required.

 

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer this pivotal role ensures the safe, efficient, and commercially optimised movement of our products to market, integrating freight strategy, shipping execution, and sales governance to maximise value and maintain HIO’s competitive edge.

 

This position will lead a team of five, which includes one Lead Shipping & Chartering and four Advisors Sales & Marketing.

 

Duties:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Sales Operations & Shipping team.
  • Manage a flexible and competitive freight portfolio, negotiating and executing freight contracts and chartering arrangements
  • Oversee shipping operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant vessel scheduling and administration
  • Align sales book management with customer commitments, production plans, and shipping capacity
  • Drive sales operations governance, ensuring accurate documentation, invoicing, and revenue collection
  • Monitor market trends, pricing, and competitor activity to inform decision-making and reporting
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, customers, shipbrokers, port authorities, and other key stakeholders

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business, Economics, Supply Chain, Finance, or related discipline
  • Significant experience in marketing, shipping, marine logistics, and sales operations within the Asian iron ore markets
  • Mandarin language skills and a thorough understanding of Chinese culture
  • Proven expertise in commercial negotiations, portfolio and stakeholder management, and contract execution
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams in fast-paced commercial environments
