About the role:
The Rail Maintenance team is currently seeking a Technician Perway Welder to join them on a 14 days on, 14 days off FIFO roster from Perth to the Roy Hill mine. Reporting to the Supervisor Turnout Maintenance, you will be responsible for carrying out the specialist weld repairs of worn and damaged rail and turnout components across the Hancock Iron Ore rail network.
You’ll assess defects, prepare the affected area, and execute the work to restore the required rail profile. You’ll also check repair quality, complete welding records and work with the rail maintenance crew to ensure the track is safe for the passage of trains.
Duties:
- Provide Perway welding and turnout maintenance expertise to wayside infrastructure
- Ensure the track is safe for the passage of trains and apply speed restrictions as and where required
- Provide technical expertise to the weekly and annual maintenance planning processes
- Safely use various hand and mechanical tools to complete turnout maintenance and repair tasks
- Monitor equipment wear rates and create notifications to enable maintenance to schedule corrective actions
- Ensure relevant engineering design and maintenance standards for turnout maintenance are accurate
- Ability to understand technical NDT output from the track measurement vehicle
- Respond to defects in line with procedure as appropriate in a safe and timely manner
Skills and Experience:
- TLIW0036 Apply Electric Welding Process to Rail certification is mandatory
- Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure desirable
- Previous experience in a Perway Welder or similar position
- Current C Class Drivers Licence Mandatory
- MR/HR Truck Licence desirable
- Knowledge and application of Perway welding repair methods on RBM/SNX/SNXAS crossings
- Proficiency in powered equipment, disc cutters, angle grinders, MP12 & MP23 grinders, welding generators, air compressors and MMAW welding techniques
