About the role:

The Cloud & Data team is currently seeking a Specialist Database to join them on a Monday-Friday Roster based at Perth. Reporting to the Manager Cloud & Data, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of structured data platforms across on-premises, cloud, and OT environments.

 

The Specialist Database is an evolution of the traditional SQL Administrator, focused on managing and optimising Microsoft SQL Server environments in a complex enterprise and mining context.


Duties:

  • Administer, optimise, and manage Microsoft SQL Server databases and clusters
  • SQL/Power-Bi Reporting Services
  • Automating patching, deployments, monitoring, and routine maintenance tasks using Infrastructure as Code tools such as PowerShell, Python, Bicep; leverage AI-enabled solutions for efficiency
  • Design, implement, and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions
  • Troubleshoot slow queries, optimise indexes, analyse execution plans, and manage resource utilisation; perform advanced capacity planning and proactive health monitoring
  • Oversee SQL Server patching, compliance, and backup/recovery strategies
  • Manage structured data services across Azure, AWS, hybrid, and OT platforms
  • Collaborate across data, analytics, and business teams to support governance, documentation standards, and seamless knowledge transfer
  • Support and guide technology teams and broader business support teams by sharing expertise, conducting peer reviews, and promoting best practices for managing robust SQL environments

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in SQL Server administration within enterprise or mining environments, including lifecycle management and optimsation across on-premises, cloud, and OT platforms.
  • Expertise in performance tuning and high availability/disaster recovery strategies
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code and automation tools like PowerShell, Python, Bicep, and Terraform to streamline deployments, patching, and maintenance
  • Developed understanding of compliance, security hardening, and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and regulatory requirements
  • Expertise in the infrastructure foundations that underpin SQL Server and troubleshooting complex SQL issues.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and version control systems (GitHub, Azure DevOps), supporting agile delivery and continuous improvement
