About the role:
The Sustaining Capital Projects team is currently seeking a Specialist Cost Control to join them on a Monday-Friday Roster based at Perth. Reporting to the Superintendent Project Services, you will be responsible for cost control for the HIO sustaining capital portfolio - including Mine, Processing, Port & Rail, and Non-Process Infrastructure.
This role will be responsible for reporting of the portfolio costs including validating the basis of estimate and cost allocation for each project. The role may require you to develop and improve cost control processes including standardised metrics and reporting dashboards to track key indicators such as cost variance, schedule variance, forecast accuracy, and risk ratings. These outputs will support the Superintendent, Manager Sustaining Capital, and operational General Managers to make decisions regarding portfolio prioritisation and capital allocation to maximise value for HIO.
The Project Services team is responsible for managing and facilitating the sustaining capital 2-Year Budget approval process on behalf of the operations. This includes the collating of all relevant information, engaging with key stakeholders and preparing the necessary approval artifacts.
Duties:
- Prepare all the reference baseline documents in accordance with portfolio cost control guidelines and ensure that requirements are properly and clearly communicated to the project teams.
- Validate individual project scopes and basis of estimate to support accurate cashflow forecasting.
- Monitor and audit project cost systems and reporting methodology and ensure this is consistent with the project framework procedures and guidelines.
- Review and analyse portfolio budget comparing against forecasts.
- Reconcile portfolio expenditure against budget.
- Highlight areas of portfolio risk to mitigate cost overruns.
- Ensure accuracy of cost control systems and advise the Superintendent of any significant variances.
- Monitor foreign exchange and currency allocations for each project to ensure there are no issues with cash flow.
- Provide necessary approval artifacts for the sustaining capital 2-Year Budget approval process.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor of Engineering, Commercial / Finance or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in a similar position managing portfolio costs within the mining or construction industry.
- Advanced level in cost management reporting tools, database management and administration (SAP / PRISM / CMS / EcoSys etc).
- High level of computer skill with Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and MS Office package.
