About the Role
An opportunity currently exists for an experienced Tax Accountant to join the Hancock Iron Ore Finance team based in Perth.
Reporting to the Principal Tax, you will be a key member of our tax function, helping to ensure the business meets all regulatory and internal compliance requirements. You’ll play an important part in the day to day operations of the tax function, assisting with a variety of tasks that keep our tax matters accurate, compliant, and running smoothly.

Duties
- Manage a broad range of taxation activities, including income tax, GST, payroll tax, FBT, state royalties, fuel tax credits and R&D incentives, ensuring the organisation remains fully compliant and well‑positioned for audit readiness
- Support the development, improvement and maintenance of effective tax systems, processes and controls that enhance accuracy, efficiency and transparency across the business
- Contribute to strategic tax planning by researching issues, preparing analysis and assisting in the delivery of clear, practical tax advice to stakeholders across the organisation
- Assist with internal and external tax compliance reviews and audits, helping to gather information, respond to queries and drive timely, high‑quality outcomes
- Coordinate with external tax advisers, managing information flow and ensuring advice is aligned with business needs and delivered efficiently
- Partner with the Principal Tax and internal departments to provide guidance on tax implications of business activities, helping to optimise tax outcomes and support informed decision‑making
Skills and experience
- CA or CPA qualification, supported by a tertiary degree in Accounting, Commerce, Economics, Law or a related discipline
- Proven ability to work independently on complex compliance tasks, with a disciplined and organised approach to managing deadlines
- High level of attention to detail, with strong analytical skills and a mindset for continually assessing and improving tax related processes
- Confident communicator who can translate technical tax concepts into clear, practical guidance for stakeholders across the business
- Solid knowledge of Australian tax legislation and relevant accounting standards (including IFRS), with experience applying these in a corporate environment
