About the role:
The Integrated Remote operations team is currently seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to join them on a 4 days on, 3 days off FIFO roster based at the Roy Hill Mine. Reporting to the Superintendent Control Systems, this role is responsible for diagnosing complex problems, developing and implementing robust technical solutions, improving control system performance, and ensuring the long-term reliability and maintainability of critical operational systems.
The successful candidate will be a highly capable, hands-on engineer with deep expertise in PLC, SCADA, industrial communications, and control system architecture. You will be responsible for diagnosing complex problems, developing and implementing robust technical solutions, improving control system performance, and ensuring the long-term reliability and maintainability of critical operational systems.
This role requires an individual who can confidently take advanced concepts from idea through design, coding, testing, commissioning, and operational support. Equally important is the ability to clearly document, communicate, and justify technical decisions while providing mentorship and guidance to engineers, technicians, and operational personnel.
Duties:
- Provide expert-level support for PLC, SCADA, historian, network, and field automation systems
- Lead complex troubleshooting and root cause investigations involving control logic, instrumentation, communications, and process interactions
- Design, develop, test, and commission control system modifications and enhancements to improve plant safety, reliability, availability, and performance
- Develop high-quality PLC, HMI, SCADA, and automation software using modern engineering and coding standards
- Translate operational requirements and improvement opportunities into practical, sustainable automation solutions
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives through optimisation of control strategies, alarming, visualisation, diagnostics, and automation systems
- Provide technical leadership during commissioning activities, plant outages, troubleshooting events
- Support and maintain industrial control system standards, architecture, cybersecurity requirements, and engineering governance practices
- Mentor and coach control systems engineers and technicians, promoting engineering excellence and consistency across the business
- Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Technology teams to ensure solutions are practical, maintainable, and aligned with operational objectives
- Provide after-hours technical support and engineering assistance when required for critical operational issues.
Skills and Experience:
- Degree qualification in Industrial Control and Automation Engineering or equivalent
- Extensive hands-on experience supporting and maintaining industrial control systems within mining
- Advanced SCADA/HMI development experience, including alarming, graphics design, diagnostics, and operational visualisation
- Proven ability to diagnose complex automation issues involving interactions between software, communications, instrumentation, and process equipment
- Technical writing skills, with the ability to create clear, accurate, and maintainable engineering documentation
