About the Role:
The Finance team is currently seeking an experienced Lead Financial Accounting – Owner Operator to join them on a Monday to Friday role based in Perth. Reporting to the Manager Financial Accountant, System and Improvements, you will be responsible for the timely preparation of monthly and statutory financial reporting across multiple entities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and legislative requirements. The role also supports the implementation of finance systems, policies and internal controls to ensure accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Provide guidance, coaching and support to direct reports to ensure high quality delivery of outcomes.
- Build a high-performance team culture aligned to company values and standards.
- Contribute to recruitment, development and performance management of team members.
Financial & Statutory Reporting:
- Lead monthly and annual financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with Corporations Act 2001, Australian Accounting Standards and IFRS.
- Deliver financial analysis and commentary to explain performance and key variances.
- Support shareholders, Board and external stakeholder reporting requirements.
Audit, Compliance and Governance:
- Manage external audit processes, including preparation of audit deliverables and resolution of audit queries.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare technical accounting papers to support key accounting positions.
- Support Audit and Compliance Committee reporting and approvals.
Financial Controls and Processes:
- Oversee general ledger integrity, reconciliation and trial balance accuracy.
- Maintain and enhance financial controls, policies and procedures.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, including control weaknesses and process gaps.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across finance process and systems.
Stakeholder Management:
- Liaise with groups inside and outside the organisation, including the HIO Leadership Team, equity participants, business functional teams within and outside of Finance, ERP project and BAU support team and external auditors.
- Provide clear, timely responses to financial queries and reporting requirements.
Safety & HSE:
- Promote and comply with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) standards and safe work practices.
- Ensure team adherence to safety policies and reporting requirements.
Skills and experience:
Essential:
- 5–10 years’ professional experience in public practice and/or accounting, with a strong background developed in a Big 4 or reputable mid‑tier firm.
- CA/CPA qualification (or equivalent)
- Strong financial reporting, analysis and problem-solving capability.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and experience working with financial systems.
- Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable:
- Work experience within the mining industry, preferably within the iron ore sector.
- Experience with SAP ERP system.
- Prior exposure to Power BI and Business Objects / Business Intelligence reporting.
