About the Role

Hancock Iron Ore is seeking an experienced Advisor – Environment Approvals and Compliance to join our dynamic team in Perth.

Reporting to the Superintendent Environment Approvals, Biodiversity and Compliance, you will help secure and maintain the environmental approvals that underpin our operations, while ensuring we meet all legal and regulatory obligations across the business. You will lead compliance assessments, monitoring programs, reviews and audits, manage critical environmental data and assess it against trigger levels and approval requirements.

Duties:

  • Champion a strong safety culture by applying risk management and proactively reporting hazards, incidents and near misses
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to deliver environmental approvals and ensure ongoing compliance across operations
  • Maintain a strong understanding of operational plans to identify approval needs early and manage approval plans, timelines and regulatory submissions
  • Prepare, review and submit high‑quality approval and regulatory documentation in accordance with statutory requirements, policies and guidelines
  • Manage and maintain the Environmental Data Management System, ensuring accurate collation, assessment and reporting of monitoring data against thresholds and approval conditions
  • Conduct desktop and onsite audits and inspections of environmental obligations and the Environmental Management System, preparing reports and supporting implementation of recommendations
  • Liaise with internal teams, contractors, regulators and specialists to provide advice and support timely, compliant approvals

 

Skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or similar qualification in Environmental Management
  • Significant experience in environmental approvals, gained within a relevant consultancy and/or industry setting, including hands-on involvement in preparing a range of State and Commonwealth approvals
  • Strong working knowledge of Western Australian environmental legislation and frameworks, particularly the Environmental Protection Act (Part IV and Part V), Mining Act, and EPBC Act
  • Excellent report writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting environmental audits; formal audit qualifications will be highly regarded
  • Proficiency in GIS for data management and map production
  • Ability to read and interpret legislation, approval conditions, and regulatory requirements
