About the role:
The Laboratory team is currently seeking a Metallurgy Technician to join the team on a 7 days on, 7 days off roster based at the Roy Hill Mine. Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, this key operational role is responsible for the safe and effective collection, preparation, processing, and testing of metallurgical samples from across the process plant.
You will play an important role in supporting the delivery of timely, accurate, and reliable quality data for internal stakeholders, including Technical Services, Metallurgy, and Demand Chain. This information enables effective decision-making across the business and supports the ongoing performance of the process plant.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong safety leadership, operational discipline, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Duties:
- Ensure the safety, health, and wellbeing of yourself, your team members, and others working in the area
- Safely collect metallurgical samples from sample stations, live streams, and other designated locations within the processing plant
- Prepare and process metallurgical samples in accordance with required testing regimes and laboratory procedures
- Conduct routine testing activities, including but not limited to assay preparation, particle size distribution, moisture determination, bulk density determination, and other mineralogical testing
- Accurately label, record, register, and enter sample data into laboratory systems, including the automated laboratory facility
- Utilise and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure timely, accurate, and reliable results
- Support internal customers, including Technical Services, Metallurgy, and Demand Chain, by providing quality data to assist operational and technical decision-making
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, equipment care, and operational discipline within the laboratory and sample collection areas
- Identify, escalate, and manage safety, quality, and operational risks as required
- Contribute to operational excellence through the identification and elimination of waste, improvement opportunities, and more efficient ways of working
- Act as a positive role model by contributing to a respectful, safe, and collaborative team culture aligned to company values
Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience as a Metallurgy Technician, Laboratory Technician, Process Technician, or similar operational role
- Knowledge of metallurgical sample collection, sample preparation, and laboratory testing processes
- Experience collecting samples from processing plants, sample stations, or live plant environments
- Strong attention to detail with accurate labelling, recording, data entry, and sample traceability
- Ability to follow procedures, maintain operational discipline, and escalate risks or abnormalities
- Experience using laboratory systems, automated laboratory equipment, or sample registration systems will be highly regarded
- Strong commitment to safety, health, wellbeing, and positive team culture
- Ability to work effectively in a remote FIFO environment
- Current C Class WA Driver’s Licence.
- Forklift licence or experience, computer literacy, and Microsoft Office skills will be highly regarded.
