About the role
Hancock Iron Ore is seeking an experienced and motivated Supervisor Environment – Operations to lead environmental compliance across our Contractor Mining sites.
Reporting to the Superintendent Environment and Approvals, you will be responsible for managing and implementing environmental compliance work packages, ensuring our operations meet the highest standards and regulatory requirements. In this newly created role, you will provide expert, site-specific input into environmental approvals applications and management plans, ensuring they are accurate, effective, and aligned with operational needs. With a passion for sustainability and continuous improvement, you will champion initiatives that enhance our environmental performance, drawing on your technical expertise, industry best practice, and knowledge of evolving regulations.

Duties
- Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to all safety, environmental, and legislative requirements, and promptly reporting hazards and incidents
- Apply risk and hazard controls, including psychosocial risk considerations, to maintain safe and compliant operations
- Lead and manage environmental compliance activities, initiatives, and incident investigations across operational sites
- Maintain effective relationships with internal teams, contractors, Traditional Owners, regulators, and community representatives
- Mentor and support team members, promoting knowledge sharing, professional growth, and an inclusive workplace
- Manage environmental budgets, systems, and ensure timely submission of required reports, permits, and approvals
- Review and enhance environmental policies, procedures, and control systems to meet current regulations and best practices
- Deliver targeted environmental training to improve staff understanding and compliance
Skills and experience
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
- Proven experience in environmental compliance within the mining or resources sector
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks in Western Australia
- Proven experience in supervising small teams, with mentoring skills and a passion for developing team capability
- Demonstrated experience in environmental audits, inspections, investigations, and operational environmental management
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to lead and influence operational teams
- Postgraduate qualifications in environmental management or sustainability, additional qualifications such as ICAM Lead Investigator or Lead Auditor and knowledge of environmental auditing and ISO standard will be beneficial
